I’m trying to figure out the basic layout of BMW’s sedan and coupe lineup for the end of the decade. I figure the SAVs and Z4 will follow the same lack of thought. Here’s where Im at so far and a rough key:
[Current Designation] - [New Designation] [(Displacement Designation)]. Additional info .
BMW
[ 220i | 200 hp, 0-60 in 6.7 s ].
228i - 230i (220is) | 240 hp, 0-60 in 5.4 s.
[ 240i | 3.0L, 300 hp, 0-60 in 4.8 s ].
M235i - M240i (230is) | 320 hp, 0-60 in 4.5 s.
M2 | 3.0L, 365 hp, 0-60 in 4.1 s.
[ M2 CSL | 3.0L, 400 hp, 0-60 in 3.9 s ].
No hybrid models, focus on lightweight, the Boxster/Cayman of BMW as far as enthusiast focus goes.

320i -
320i (320i) | 180 hp, 0-60 7.1 s.
R
eplace w/ 220i GC.
328i - 330i (320is) | 240 hp, 0-60 in 5.8 s.
330e - 330e (320e) | 248 hp, 0-60 in 5.9 s.
340i - 340i (330i) | 320 hp, 0-60 in 4.7 s.
[ M340i | 3.0L, 365 hp, 0-60 in 4.4 s ]. AMG C43 fighter. M2 power.
M3 | 3.0L, 425 hp, 0-60 in 4.1 s.
[ M3 CSL | 3.0L, 470 hp, 0-60 in 3.8 s ]. C63 S/Quadrifoglio fighter.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
428i - 430i (420is) | 240 hp, 0-60 in 5.7 s.
[ M430e GC | 2.0L plug-in hybrid, 315 hp, 0-60 in 4.9 s ].
435i - 440i (430i) | 300 hp, 0-60 in 4.9 s. Power bump to 320 hp.
[ M440i | 365 hp, 0-60 in 4.4 s ]. AMG C43 fighter. M2 power.
M4 | 3.0L, 425 hp, 0-60 in 4.1 s.
[ M4 CSL | 3.0L, 470 hp, 0-60 in 3.8 s ]. AMG C63 S fighter
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
528i - 530i (520is) | 240 hp, 0-60 in 6.2 s.
535i - 540i (530i) | 300 hp, 0-60 in 5.7 s. Power bump to 320 hp.
ActiveHybrid 5 - 540e (530e) | 315 hp, 0-60 in 5.7 s. Replace w/ PHEV.
[M540i | M3 3.0L, 400 hp, 0-60 in 4.6 s]. AMG E43 fighter/550i replacement.
550i - 550i (544i) | 445 hp, 0-60 in 4.4 s.
M5 | 4.4L, 560 hp, 0-60 in 4.2 s. Replace w/ 550 hp 3.0L hybrid.
[ M5 CSe | 3.0L plug-in hybrid, 600 hp, 0-60 in 3.8 s ].
I think the V8 will be out of the performance cars. The 4.4L will act like a grand touring trim, like a Mercedes V12 or Alpina.

640i - 640i (630is) | 315 hp, 0-60 in 5.2 s.
[M 640e GC | 3.0L plug-in hybrid, 380 hp, 0-60 in 4.8 s ].
650i - 650i (644i) | 445 hp, 0-60 in 4.4 s.
M6 | 4.4L, 560 hp, 0-60 in 4.1 s.
[ M6 CSe | 3.0L plug-in hybrid, 600 hp, 0-60 in 3.8 s ].
Again, the 4.4L will be a high torque luxury touring option rather than a performance engine.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
740i - 740i (730i) | 320 hp, 0-60 in 5.4 s.
[ 740e | 3.0L plug-in hybrid, 380 hp, 0-60 in 5.0 s ].
750i - 750i (744i) | 445 hp, 0-60 in 4.5 s.
[ M750e | 3.0L plug-in hybrid, 570 hp, 0-60 in 4.0 s ].
760i | 6.6L, 600 hp, 0-60 in 3.8 s.
No M7, but an M760i is confirmed if not out and I think they’ll do a hybrid with a retuned M5 CSe/M6 CSe setup in the M750e and a plain old PHEV with the 740e. The V8 in the 750i would just be a baby V12 pretty much. I think Mercedes is doing the same with their non-AMG V8s.
So the V8 is phased out of performance and into a luxury touring option. ActiveHybrid models are killed off for PHEV models only. All of these are me goofing around, feel free to toss in whatever you know.
Bman76 (no it doesn't need a WS6 hood) is dead, long live Bman76 M. Arch

Thanks for trying to explain the schemes. Although, I kinda like my current method of “M badge = Good, no M Badge = Bad”

OMG you dedicated SO MUCH thought to this haha, bravo. I definitely agree that as time goes on we’re going to see the TT6 take over a lot of the lineup at various states of tune. So sad :(
But hey... we can still buy up the used V8 stuff, RIGHT NOW

Yeah, this is my favorite stuff to do. I’m STILL working on explaining what is going on in the 5-Series/E-Class Segment! It will actually explain how Hyundai launched a luxury brand, why we’ll see RWD 4-door cars from regular brands, why a 340 hp Jaguar XF costs the same as a 240 hp 528i, why the 467 hp GS F is a great deal even with the 640 hp CTS-V costing the same price, and all kinds of things you all should enjoy.
As I get time, I’ll try to knock out more of this type of stuff since I’m more into the industry organization than the cars.

Whoaahhhh a supercharged XF is as much as a 528? Damn. I totally get the fascination with the business side of things, I’m also into that. So maybe the explanation for Jag vs. BMW is that BMW’s badge is worth more? I once read an article that claimed BMW was the most “expensive” badge in the world - if you could put a theoretical value on the brand name itself.

I’m pretty sure that 4.4L V8 will be out the door sooner rather than later. I’d expect it to be replaced by a 4.0L V8 to adhere to their 500cc cylinder concept. Possibly as soon as when the new 5-series breaks cover. Also, I really, really want that quad-turbo 3.0L I6 diesel they make in Europe to make its way across the pond in the form of an M550d or 750d. 400hp and 560 torques makes my mouth water.
HFV has no HFV. But somehow has 2 motorcycles
